It was fun while it lasted, but Nokomis's undefeated season came to an end after eight games on Saturday. They took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hillsboro Hiltoppers. The matchup marked the Redskins' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Several Redskins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Natalie Brownback, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 16 points. Brownback is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinley Stolte, who posted six points and 12 rebounds.
Ella Greenwood was the offensive standout of the game as she went 7 of 14 on her way to 19 points and three steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in February. Delaney Adams was another key player, putting up six points and seven rebounds.
Having lost for the first time this season, Nokomis fell to 8-1. As for Hillsboro, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.
Nokomis and Hillsboro should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Nokomis (ranked 109th) will meet Central A & M (ranked 553rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Nokomis' defense has only allowed 28.6 points per game this season, so Hillsboro's offense will have their work cut out for them. Similarly, Hillsboro (ranked 134th) will meet Litchfield (ranked 410th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
