THE PLAINS, Ohio -
Marion-Franklin (Columbus, Ohio) snapped the 13-game winning streak of Athens (The Plains, Ohio), with a 38-7 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Omar Alfred in the first quarter, the Red Devils led 12-0 at the half.
Marion-Franklin grew its lead to 26 points entering the fourth quarter. MF scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Jhulyis Monroe.
Athens' lone touchdown came on a 19-yard pass from Joey Burrow to Adam Luehrman in the fourth quarter.
The Columbus school had given up an average of 11.9 points prior to the contest. The seven points that the Bulldogs ended with were well below their average of 51.8 coming into the game.
The loss comes after Athens defeated Nelsonville-York 56-20 last week.
Athens (13-1) goes up against Logan Elm in a playoff game matchup next week, while Marion-Franklin (12-1) locks horns with Brookhaven also in a playoff game.
