Football Recap: Immaculata Takes Down St. Thomas Aquinas in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Immaculata had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the St. Thomas Aquinas Trojans 30-6 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won seven games by 24 points or more so far this season.

Daysir Spille produced another solid effort rushing for 190 yards and three TDs. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Immaculata was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 315 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 249 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.

Immaculata didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Quinn Hayden and Spille. Spille also punched in three rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Immaculata is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise.

Immaculata's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.0 points on average over those games. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.

Coming up, Immaculata will square off against Paramus Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Thomas Aquinas does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
