Knox and Winamac are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Redskins will welcome the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Knox is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Knox easily dispatched Argos on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Redskins fell just short of Jimtown by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. The Redskins have struggled against the Jimmies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Joie Montague was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Madalee Hinshaw, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Winamac came tearing into Thursday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They beat the Trojans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.
Adrianna Hall was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Roth, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Maggie Keller was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Winamac kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.
Winamac pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Knox, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-5.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Knox hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Winamac struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Knox skirted past Winamac 9-8 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
