Softball Recap: Doane Academy Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Westampton Tech, Doane Academy was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over the Pemberton Hornets. Doane Academy might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Raegan Portadin made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Hannah Gusrang was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Jailyn Glass also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Doane Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .559. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Doane Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.9 runs over those games. As for Pemberton, their record now sits at 3-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Doane Academy will take on Maple Shade at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Doane Academy's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Pemberton, they will square off against Trenton Central at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
