The Richland Rams will head out to take on the Penn Cambria Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Richland's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Penn Cambria's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Penn Cambria will be up against a hot Richland team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Rams walked away with a 5-1 win over Central Cambria on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Jake Regan was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Penn Cambria unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Windber by a score of 8-7.
Penn Cambria also got a good showing from Grant Gides, who struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gides has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Evan Latterner made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Jamie Maybush also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Penn Cambria's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Richland, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Richland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Penn Cambria struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Richland couldn't quite finish off Penn Cambria in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 and fell 10-8. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
