The Franklin Central Flashes will square off against the Mooresville Pioneers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Franklin Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Franklin Central is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Hamilton Southeastern, who was ranked 15th at the time (Franklin Central was ranked 19th). The Flashes came out on top against the Royals by a score of 6-1 on Friday. That's two games straight that the Flashes have won by exactly five runs.
Kiley Renick was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
Renick wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Miller, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Franklin Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 13-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Mooresville never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Terre Haute North Vigo. The Pioneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Like Franklin Central, Mooresville also got a great game from a two-way player: Reagan Bauer. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Bauer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Tatum Humphrey was excellent, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Maddie Pierini was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Franklin Central is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Mooresville, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 17-11 record.
Franklin Central came up short against Mooresville when the teams last played back in April of 2018, falling 5-0. Can the Flashes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
