The Boulder Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Brighton Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Boulder is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Boulder came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Prairie View, falling 8-2. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Thunderhawks: they've now lost four in a row.
Boulder saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Finn Torvik, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brighton). They put the hurt on Northglenn with a sharp 18-0 victory on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bulldogs with their most commanding win of the season.
Nolan Engle was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Austin Waltemath was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. Brighton is undefeated when Waltemath posts three or more RBI, but 7-8 otherwise. Blake George was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Brighton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Brighton's record is now 11-8. As for Boulder, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
Boulder skirted past Brighton 4-3 in their previous matchup last Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
