Niles West and Regina Dominican are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Wolves will be playing at home against the Panthers at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
Niles West managed to slip by Niles North the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wolves came up short against the Vikings on Thursday, falling 11-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Niles West saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Mendoza, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Regina Dominican waltzed into their game on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Addison Volkers made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Izzie Christensen was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Fraterrigo, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Regina Dominican hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in eight consecutive contests.
Regina Dominican pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Niles West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.
Everything went Niles West's way against Regina Dominican in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Niles West made off with a 14-1 victory. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
