Baseball Recap: Monday's Win Is North Decatur's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

After losing to Jac-Cen-Del the last time they met, North Decatur decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Chargers were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Eagles on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Xander Jones and Matthew Fields made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Jones pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Fields didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Jones went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Fields went 2-for-3 with one run.

In other batting news, Kamdenn McKinney was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Gage Gabbard also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

North Decatur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

North Decatur has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Jac-Cen-Del, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.

North Decatur and Jac-Cen-Del are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Chargers will challenge Southwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jac-Cen-Del, they will face off against Hauser at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jets will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
