The Admiral Farragut BlueJackets will square off against the Sarasota Christian Blazers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Admiral Farragut headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but St. Petersburg Catholic let them put that streak behind them. The BlueJackets put the hurt on the Barons with a sharp 18-2 victory on Monday. The BlueJackets haven't had any issues with the Barons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Brooke McCarthy made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. McCarthy was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Jana Fackih was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Dunn, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
Admiral Farragut always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sarasota Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 21-5 margin over All Saints' Academy on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Blazers, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Sarasota Christian got a massive performance out of Ashton Klinger, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Selah Spenn, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Admiral Farragut's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Sarasota Christian, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Admiral Farragut has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Sarasota Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .599. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
