The Allen Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Plano East Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Tuesday, Allen made easy work of McKinney Boyd and carried off a 3-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now won five in a row.
The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-21.
Allen can attribute much of their success to Campbell Sheffield, who had 12 digs and one assist, and Landry McRae, who had three digs and three aces. That's the most aces McRae has posted since back in August.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Plano East duked it out with McKinney on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Lions 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Panthers have posted against the Lions since September 19, 2017.
While Plano East won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-18, 25-23.
Plano East's win came from a few key players Allen will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dakota Huynh, who had 14 digs and nine assists. She has been hot, having posted 12 or more digs the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Reeves, who had six digs and two aces.
Allen's record is now 27-5. As for Plano East, their record now sits at 22-8.
Allen came out on top in a nail-biter against Plano East in their previous meeting back in August, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
