The Brackenridge Eagles waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They breezed by Jefferson at home to the tune of 60-24. Given Brackenridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 543rd, while Jefferson is ranked 1332nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brackenridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sarah Arriaga, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Arriaga has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alasia Brown, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Jefferson's loss came despite strong showings from Destiny Duenas and Marina Guajardo. Duenas scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Guajardo scored six points along with five rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Jefferson struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Brackenridge racked up 16 assists.
Brackenridge pushed their record up to 19-14 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Jefferson, they are on a 19-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-28.
Brackenridge will head out on the road to take on Lanier at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Brackenridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday. As for Jefferson, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Sam Houston at 5:00 p.m. Hopefully Jefferson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday.
