The Straughn Tigers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They blew past Red Level 52-23 on the road. That looming 52-23 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Straughn yet this season.
Straughn found their leader in underclassman Blakeley Smith, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. Aubrey Pittman was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Red Level lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mariah Crowell, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. The matchup was Crowell's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Red Level struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
The victory was the fifth in a row for Straughn, bringing their record for this year to 5-2. As for Red Level, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Straughn won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against McKenzie at 5:30 p.m. on December 8th. McKenzie will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 397th, while Straughn is ranked 108th). As for Red Level, they will head out on the road to face off against Opp at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Opp focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
