The La Jolla Country Day Torreys are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Banning Pilots at 7:00 p.m. on December 2nd. La Jolla Country Day knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Banning likes a good challenge.
La Jolla Country Day extended their postseason success on Saturday against Grossmont. They claimed a resounding 73-34 victory over the Foothillers on the road. The result was nothing new for La Jolla Country Day, who have now won eight contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Jaden Mangini continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 429 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 13.4 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 113 yards and four touchdowns. Mangini is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Quentin Cesaire also helped out with an impressive 94 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was La Jolla Country Day's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, Christopher Hughes was the leader with three sacks.
Meanwhile, Banning has more to be thankful for after their match against Crenshaw on Friday. Banning came out on top against Crenshaw by a score of 35-28. Winning may never get old, but Banning sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Banning's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Steven Perez led the charge by rushing for 108 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Perez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Villanueva, who rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped La Jolla Country Day to 11-3 and Grossmont to 7-6.
