Softball Game Preview: Lejeune Devil Pups vs. Liberty Christian Academy Heat

The Lejeune Devil Pups will head out to challenge the Liberty Christian Academy Heat at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lejeune will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Lejeune had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Lakewood on Friday. Lejeune put the hurt on Lakewood with a sharp 22-16 win.

Lejeune let Kendall Taylor and Kadence Gordon run wild. Taylor scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances, while Gordon scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Gordon a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Alexis Soriano, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.

Lejeune always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .648. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Liberty Christian Academy had to start their season on the road on Thursday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of Lejeune by a score of 9-7.

Hollyn Thigpen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Lily Lanier was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Lejeune's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Liberty Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Lejeune came out on top in a nail-biter against Liberty Christian Academy in their previous matchup on Thursday, sneaking past 9-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lejeune since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
