Long Reach came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 76-64 on Wednesday. Given Long Reach's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Vikings are ranked 147th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Long Reach was led to victory by Jayden Saunders and Daniel Best. Saunders scored 22 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Best scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Best has scored all season. Junior Nunez was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Long Reach's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Mt. Hebron, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Long Reach will take on the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Howard will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Mt. Hebron, they will be playing at home against the Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Oakland Mills has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5.
