Kennedy dropped their record down to 9-9 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Manual Thunderbolts, falling 15-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Commanders have suffered since May 6, 2024.
Kennedy saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Manny Rojas, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Eric Valenzuela was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
As for Manual, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-7. Considering they have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
On Manual's side, Leo Zimmerman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 15 batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Zimmerman has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Manual got a massive performance out of Edgar Salas, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Salas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Carney, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kennedy will square off against Standley Lake at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Manual, they will face off against Denver West at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
