Basketball Recap: Wakefield Falls Despite Big Games from Daxton Summerson and Kingsley Smith

Wakefield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 27th straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 41-29 to the Herington Railroaders. The Bombers lost against the Railroaders in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-14 score last time.

Kingsley Smith and Daxton Summerson certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Smith dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards, while Summerson dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 points gave Summerson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Markus Severson, who posted three points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Wakefield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Herington had a senior duo take command as Mason Mortensen put up 19 points and seven boards and Riley Jackson scored 15 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Mortensen has scored at least a third of Herington's points.

Wakefield's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Herington, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5.

Wakefield has already played their next matchup (against Peabody-Burns), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Herington has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Solomon.
