The Olympic Trojans were the 68-48 winner over the South Mecklenburg Sabres when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Olympic was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 53-52 to South Mecklenburg. While losing is never fun, Olympic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 449th, while South Mecklenburg is ranked 54th).
Olympic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was RANDY JOHNSON, who scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds. JOHNSON scored a full 30.8% of Olympic's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. MAURICE SABB was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Olympic struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as South Mecklenburg pulled down 11.
Peter Moye continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for South Mecklenburg, scoring 19 points along with 5 rebounds. The game was Moye's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Yariel Chudgar, who scored 6 points along with 3 steals.
Olympic are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6. As for South Mecklenburg, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Olympic will face off against South Aiken at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully South Aiken focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday. As for South Mecklenburg, they will head out on the road to face off against Berry at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Berry is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
