Faith Baptist were the 56-33 winner over Lakecrest Baptist when they last played one another back in December of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. Faith Baptist fell 54-47 to Lakecrest Baptist on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Faith Baptist can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 197th, while Lakecrest Baptist is ranked eighth).
Faith Baptist's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zech Gartrelle, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Gartrelle scored a full 42.6% of Faith Baptist's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Silas Mosey, who scored ten points.
Faith Baptist's loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2. As for Lakecrest Baptist, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Faith Baptist will face off against Bloomfield Christian School at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Bloomfield Christian School focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Tuesday. As for Lakecrest Baptist, they will head out on the road to face off against Springfield Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Springfield Christian Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
