Baseball Recap: Harmon Takes a Loss

Harmon extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 8-9 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sumner Academy Sabres. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sabres this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-6 back in April.

Harmon got a good showing from Jesus Portillo Carrillo, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The Hawks are 4-2 when Portillo Carrillo allows two or fewer hits, but 4-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Brandon Anfinson and Jackson Williams did some serious damage despite the final result: Anfinson went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Williams got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for Sumner Academy, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-10. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 4, 2023, but that streak is no more.

On Sumner Academy's side, Jackson Mason was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Mason was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Mason wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aden Bergman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Those two runs gave Bergman a new career-high.

Harmon has already played their next matchup, a 12-2 loss against Washington on the 2nd. As for Sumner Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 victory against Wyandotte on the 6th.
