Platte Canyon hasn't had much luck against Bennett recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. In Monday's Canine Competition, Platte Canyon didn't have enough. They came up short against Arvada on Monday, falling 22-15. Even if the Huskies couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Dylan Severson and Colton Shirley did some serious damage despite the final result: Severson scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Shirley scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Rachael Hayes was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Bennett lost 15-7 to Alameda on Monday. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ben Mathis put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Mathis was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Brody Hawes was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Bennett's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-6. As for Platte Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Bennett's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Platte Canyon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. It's a different story for Bennett, though, as they've only averaged .337. Will they be able to contain Platte Canyon's hitters?
