Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Tocoi Creek walked away with it. They snuck past the Niceville Eagles with a 53-47 victory on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Toros sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Tocoi Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gabi Iturralde, who went 5-for-12 en route to 19 points and four steals. Iturralde is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Beyer, who posted 14 points and seven boards.
Tocoi Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Niceville only five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Niceville lost, don't look at Carson Fayard. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Maddie Miller, who earned seven points in addition to five boards and four blocks.
Tocoi Creek's win bumped their record up to 20-7. As for Niceville, their loss dropped their record down to 22-6.
After both having extra time off, Tocoi Creek and Bloomingdale will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 1:00 p.m. on March 6th. Bloomingdale knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 contests -- so hopefully Tocoi Creek likes a good challenge.
