Blue Ridge hasn't had much luck against Palmetto recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Fighting Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Blue Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Blue Ridge couldn't beat Seneca on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Fighting Tigers fell 8-4 to the Bobcats.
Khloe Metcalf was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Palmetto, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They came out on top against Wren by a score of 10-7 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Halle Tompkins made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Carrigan Holbert was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kelsi Alberson, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Palmetto was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Palmetto's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-10. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Blue Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.
Palmetto's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Blue Ridge has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Palmetto, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits. Given Blue Ridge's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Blue Ridge might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Palmetto when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can the Fighting Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
