The MAST Academy Makos's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They suffered a rough 63-38 loss at the hands of Somerset Academy South Homestead. While losing is never fun, MAST Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 642nd, while Somerset Academy South Homestead is ranked 268th).
Leading Somerset Academy South Homestead to victory were Aaron Rowe and Kas Williams. Rowe scored 20 points along with six steals, while Williams dropped a double-double on 18 points and 24 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Rowe scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Gonzalez, who scored six points along with three steals.
MAST Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Somerset Academy South Homestead, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. MAST Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mater Brickell Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 10, 2024. Somerset Academy South Homestead will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Coconut Creek at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
