On Saturday, things could have been worse for Saint Andrew's, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-43 loss to Cypress Bay. While losing is never fun, Saint Andrew's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Cypress Bay is ranked 87th).
When it comes to explaining why Saint Andrew's lost, one person who can't be blamed is Emma Smith. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with five rebounds. The matchup was Smith's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Beighley, who scored nine points.
Peyton Looky continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cypress Bay, scoring 25 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Agam Gago, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Saint Andrew's has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season. As for Cypress Bay, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-1.
Saint Andrew's and West Boca Raton will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. West Boca Raton is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Cypress Bay will take on Miramar at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Miramar is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
