The Goldwater Bulldogs's game back in December of 2023 was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They came out on top against Marcos de Niza by a score of 37-30. That's another feather in the cap for Goldwater, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Marcos de Niza's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paityn Lutostanski, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Lutostanski scored a full 46.7% of Marcos de Niza's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Leila Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring five points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Goldwater's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Marcos de Niza, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Goldwater will square off against Agua Fria at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Agua Fria focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Saturday. Marcos de Niza won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mesquite at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th.
