Newtown has gone a perfect 10-0 against Kolbe-Cathedral recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Nighthawks will welcome the Cougars at 6:00 p.m.
Newtown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Pomperaug, who was ranked 21st at the time (Newtown was ranked 16th). The Nighthawks lost 3-0 to the Panthers on Tuesday.
While Newtown was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 25-21.
Kade Deraney put forth a good effort for the losing side as he had 18 assists and nine digs. He is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 18 or more in each of the last four games he's played. Sam Irving was another key player, getting 12 digs.

Kolbe-Cathedral had won two straight home games and Angel Gomez did his part to make it three on Tuesday. The Cougars came out on top against Brookfield by a score of 3-1 with plenty of help from Gomez, who had 38 digs and four aces. With that strong performance, Irving is now averaging an impressive 10.2 digs per game.
Kolbe-Cathedral had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-18.
Kolbe-Cathedral is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. As for Newtown, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.
Newtown was able to grind out a solid victory over Kolbe-Cathedral when the teams last played back in April, winning 3-1. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Gomez, who had 28 digs and one assist.
