The Yucca Valley Trojans will face off against the Lakeside Lancers at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Yucca Valley comes in on three and Lakeside on four.
Yucca Valley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They put the hurt on Bellflower with a sharp 11-5 victory. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Layla Rhodes looked comfortable as she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tayla Monroy and Leila Schwab did most of the damage at the plate: Monroy went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Schwab went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Schwab has posted since back in March. Hannah Cusack was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.
Yucca Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, while Lakeside put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Fontana. The Lancers were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Steelers.
Adryanna Alvarez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Alvarez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reese Fisher, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Natalie Franco, who went 2-for-4 with three runs.
Lakeside's win bumped their record up to 12-16. As for Yucca Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9-1.
