The Central Blue Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 76-67 defeat to Bloomfield. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malachi Thomas, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Michael Anderson, who scored 12 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Central were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Central bumped their record down to 5-3 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Bloomfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 3-5 record this season.
Central won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Canarsie at 3:30 p.m. on January 7th. Canarsie will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 349th in New York, while Central is ranked 172nd in New Jersey). As for Bloomfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Newark Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Newark Tech has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 375 points over their last six games.
