The O'Connor Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Sunnyside Blue Devils at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. O'Connor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
O'Connor is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Gila Ridge get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
The result came thanks to Rachel Davis's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sydnee Williams was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Chloe Holbrook, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside waltzed into their match on Monday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 8-1 victory. Considering the Blue Devils have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashley Rosthenhausler and Tatyana Vega made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Rosthenhausler struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Vega tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Rosthenhausler went 1-for-4 with one home run, while Vega went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles Vega has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vianney Cruz, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Soleil Ponce, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Sunnyside's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-6-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for O'Connor, their record now sits at 19-10.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. O'Connor hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Sunnyside struggles in that department as they've averaged .374. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
