The Monticello Sages will head out to challenge the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monticello will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Monticello will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Olympia, who they had gone 0-6 against in their six prior meetings. The Sages walked away with a 5-2 win over the Spartans on Monday.
Isabella Beery was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Mahomet-Seymour came out on top against Heyworth on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Bulldogs took their matchup against the Hornets 8-3.
Ainsley Whitaker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rio Casillas, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Mahomet-Seymour kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heyworth only managed five hits.
Mahomet-Seymour is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-14 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Monticello, they pushed their record up to 23-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Monticello hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like Mahomet-Seymour struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Monticello took their victory against Mahomet-Seymour in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sages since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
