The West Washington Senators fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Trinity Lutheran Cougars on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Cougars 83-79. West Washington has not had much luck with Trinity Lutheran recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the loss, West Washington saw an underclassman step up: Meredith Deaton shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 39 points and 14 rebounds. The contest was Deaton's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Jayla Batt was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, West Washington were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity Lutheran only posted seven assists.
Trinity Lutheran's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marley Warren, who scored 34 points along with three blocks. That's the first time this season that Warren posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Liza Froedge, who scored 23 points along with six steals.
West Washington has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season. As for Trinity Lutheran, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
West Washington will head out on the road to face off against Rock Creek Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Rock Creek Academy will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Trinity Lutheran will take on Lanesville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
