Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the Edison Vikings proved on Friday. They walked away with a 58-51 win over McNair. Given Edison's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 358th, while McNair is ranked 915th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Edison found their leader in underclassman Damarcus Cobb Jr, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Terrell Tek, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why McNair lost, one person who can't be blamed is DaWaine Watson. Despite the final result, he scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 45.1% of McNair's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Isaac Flores, who scored ten points.
Edison is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-8 record this season. As for McNair, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-16.
Edison will head out on the road to challenge Gregori at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Edison is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60 points per game this season. As for McNair, they will be playing at home against Weston Ranch at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Weston Ranch will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something McNair surely won't give up without a fight.
