The Gates County Red Barons lost against the Bertie Falcons back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Gates County was dealt a 64-25 loss at the hands of the Falcons. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Gates County has scored all season.
Bertie's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zymiere Dempsey, who scored seven points along with five assists and five steals. Dempsey is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevon Halleran, who scored 13 points.
Gates County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Bertie, their win bumped their record up to 16-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gates County will square off against the Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Martin County will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive. As for Bertie, they will head out on the road to face off against the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tarboro will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 498th, while the Falcons are ranked 97th).
