Cape Fear Christian Academy's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Pungo Christian Academy 14-0. Considering the Eagles have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Glenna Mclamb made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Megan Harrold, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Kristina Kennedy was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Academy narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Grace Christian 10-8.
Like Cape Fear Christian Academy, Lawrence Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Clair Ferebee. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Ferebee was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Hallie Mizelle was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jaslene Ethridge, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Lawrence Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Cape Fear Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Lawrence Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cape Fear Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .493. However, it's not like Lawrence Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .491. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
