Royal better focus on containing Brandon Sims Jr and Ja'Keon Jackson as the pair were huge in Wharton's win. Sims Jr rushed for 145 yards and three scores on only eight carries, while Jackson threw for 169 yards and four TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes. Sims Jr's longest rush was for an impressive 59 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another big playmaker for Wharton was Javien Smith, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Wharton, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Smith, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from Sims Jr.
The victory made it two in a row for Wharton and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points over those games. As for Royal, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-5.
Royal beat Wharton 38-30 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Jackson, who rushed for 153 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries, and also threw for 93 yards and three TDs. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Falcons still be able to contain Jackson? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
