Basketball Recap: Jones Handberry's Big Game Can't Quite Lead First Presbyterian Day over Southland Academy

First Presbyterian Day lost against Southland Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The First Presbyterian Day Vikings fell 59-49 to the Southland Academy Raiders. The Vikings just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

First Presbyterian Day's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jones Handberry, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Oliver Bateman, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.

First Presbyterian Day's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Southland Academy, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 11-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. First Presbyterian Day will take on Tattnall Square Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tattnall Square Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 21 matchups -- so hopefully First Presbyterian Day likes a good challenge. Southland Academy has already played their next game (against Georgia Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
