The Thales Academy Apex Titans proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 30) but on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Thales Academy Rolesville and snuck past 82-80. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Thales Academy Apex to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nathan Purvis, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds. Purvis is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Zach Rachmuth was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Thales Academy Rolesville saw an underclassman step up: Colby Currie scored 29 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Currie has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Lopez, who scored 14 points along with six assists and three steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Thales Academy Apex and bumps their season record up to 7-17. As for Thales Academy Rolesville, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.
Thales Academy Apex will head out on the road to challenge St. Thomas More Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Thales Academy Rolesville, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Friendship Christian at 7:00 p.m. Friendship Christian is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
