Nipmuc Regional is 2-8 against Sutton since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Nipmuc Regional Warriors will be playing at home against the Sutton Sammies at 4:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Nipmuc Regional pushed their score all the way to 57 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 66-57 to Bay Path RVT. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Nipmuc Regional came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Bay Path RVT is ranked 248th).
Despite the loss, Nipmuc Regional got a solid performance out of James McKinney, who dropped a double-double on 34 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McKinney has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Giardini, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Sutton's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 54-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Blackstone Valley RVT.
Despite their loss, Sutton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Brennan Benedict, who scored 11 points, was perhaps the best of all. Tighe Rogan was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
This is the second loss in a row for Nipmuc Regional and nudges their season record down to 10-5. As for Sutton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Nipmuc Regional came out on top in a nail-biter against Sutton in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, sneaking past 41-38. Does Nipmuc Regional have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sutton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
