Two dominant signal callers in Carson Miller and Danny Twomey are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Rye Garnets will take on the Cornwall Central Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Rye's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last ten contests.
Rye is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 42-14 win over Minisink Valley. The Garnets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Rye had a senior duo take command as Charlie Garnett rushed for 88 yards and two scores and Henry Shoemaker picked up 132 receiving yards and one TD.
Meanwhile, Cornwall Central's offense rose to the challenge against a Silver Warriors defense that boasted an average of only 13.58 points allowed on Friday. The Dragons secured a 34-28 W over Niskayuna.
Rye better keep an eye on Jordan Bishop. He was instrumental in Cornwall Central's win, rushing for 145 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries. With that strong performance, Bishop is now averaging an impressive 104 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaden Hershberger, who picked up 102 receiving yards and one TD.
Cornwall Central didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Niskayuna to a completion percentage of just 48%. The Dragons have been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.64 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.64 in their last three games.
Cornwall Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Lekeaka Fonkem and Rich Roohan, who each picked up one interception apiece. Cornwall Central received some extra help from Noah Cisneros, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Cornwall Central is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.1 points over those games. As for Rye, their record is now 12-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Rye has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 213.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cornwall Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 189 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Rye strolled past Cornwall Central in their previous meeting back in September of 2022 by a score of 41-22. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Dragons' Daniel Breheny, who threw for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also rushed for 50 yards and one score. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Garnets to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
