Williamsburg is 8-2 against Blanchester since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Williamsburg will head out on the road to square off against Blanchester at 4:30 p.m. Williamsburg's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Blanchester's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Williamsburg's last matchup with New Richmond could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Tuesday. The Wildcats lost 10-4 to the Lions. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Wildcats, who fell 3-1 when the teams last met back in May of 2023.
Delaney Donohoo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Kaylynn Anderkin, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Blanchester had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Rockets by a score of 9-4. The game was the first time the Wildcats have beaten the Rockets on their field since March 30, 2016.
Reece Ledford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bailie Bare, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Binkley, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Blanchester's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Williamsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 13-2.
Blanchester's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Williamsburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Blanchester, though, as they've been averaging only 2.2 strikeouts. Will Williamsburg keep running through batters, or will Blanchester buck the trend?
Everything went Williamsburg's way against Blanchester in their previous matchup on April 7th, as Williamsburg made off with a 9-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Williamsburg since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
