It was a good run, but The Guthrie Bluejays unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Carl Albert by a score of 24-21. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Guthrie in their matchups with Carl Albert: they've now lost seven in a row.
Carl Albert got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kevin Sperry out in front who threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Carl Albert also got a significant boost from Xavier Robinson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 94 yards.
Guthrie's loss dropped their record down to 7-1. As for Carl Albert, their victory was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0.
Guthrie will head out on the road to face off against Eisenhower at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Eisenhower will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while Guthrie is ranked sixth). Carl Albert will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Piedmont at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd.
