Greenwood has gone a perfect 8-0 against Southside recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Greenwood is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arkansas' top teams: Van Buren, who was ranked 25th at the time (Greenwood was ranked fourth). The Bulldogs took their game on Thursday with ease, bagging a 56-3 win over the Pointers. The Bulldogs have beaten the Pointers the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Pointers has come to flipping the script.

It was another big night for Kane Archer, who rushed for 114 yards and two TDs on only nine carries, and also threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80.8% of his passes. What's more, he racked up 159.1 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Cooper Bland was another key player, picking up 151 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Greenwood proved: they limited Van Buren to a paltry zero yards per carry. While two picked up at least six total tackles, Bryer Hackler stood above the rest. He picked up three sacks and made six total tackles. Greenwood's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 5.06 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.97 on average over their last five games.
Greenwood's defense didn't let Hayden Williford, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Hackler was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three himself.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Southside, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Russellville 56-15. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Mavericks considering their ten-point performance the matchup before.
Southside's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Greenwood, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.
Everything came up roses for Greenwood against Southside in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 70-28 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Mavericks' Jayden Webb, who rushed for 120 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, and also picked up 68 receiving yards and one touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Bulldogs to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
