The Fowler Redcats will head out on the road to face off against the Mendota Aztecs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fowler knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Mendota likes a good challenge.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Fowler walked away with it. They came out on top against Boron by a score of 43-36 on Thursday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Fowler's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Lorenzo Turner, who rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns, and Jerod Bubba smith, who rushed for 81 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries.
Meanwhile, Mendota didn't have too much trouble with Taft at home on Thursday as they won 42-28. 42 seems to be a good number for Mendota as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Among those leading the charge was Donnie Munoz, who rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Munoz was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Bernardo Camacho got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 6-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Fowler has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 275.3 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Mendota, though, as they've been averaging only 93.8 per game. How will Mendota fare against such a dominant passing game? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Fowler lost to Mendota on the road by a decisive 24-7 margin when the teams last played back in November of 2015. Can Fowler avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
