Two dominant players in Mya Mccullar and Janiyah Mcknight are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Munroe Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Madison County Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Munroe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Wednesday.
After a string of three wins, Munroe's good fortune finally ran out. They fell to Godby 44-38. Munroe found out winning isn't easy when your three-point shooting is a whole 24% worse than the opposition.
The losing side was boosted by Traniha Jackson, who scored 14 points along with six steals. Jackson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Mccullar was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 16 rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, Madison County unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Columbia on the road and fell 71-36. Madison County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-31.
Madison County's defeat came about despite a quality game from Mcknight, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Mcknight scored a full 69.4% of Madison County's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Madison County struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Munroe's record is now 3-3. As for Madison County, their loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-2.
Wednesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Munroe have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Madison County, though, as they've been averaging only 33.3 rebounds per game. Given Munroe's sizeable advantage in that area, Madison County will need to find a way to close that gap.
