Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Naselle Comets walked away with it. They put the hurt on Pomeroy with a sharp 78-58 win on Saturday. The result was nothing new for Naselle, who have now won ten matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.
Jacob Lindstrom was his usual excellent self, rushing for 346 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 13.8 yards per carry, and also throwing for 124 yards and a touchdown. Lindstrom hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Jack Strange was in the mix too, providing Naselle with three touchdowns.
Pomeroy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Jett Slusser, who threw for 311 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes, and also rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown. Oliver Severs was another key contributor, picking up 223 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
The win was the fourth in a row for Naselle, bringing their record for this year to 11-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Pomeroy, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-2.
Naselle will square off against Wilbur-Creston-Keller at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Wilbur-Creston-Keller has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 600 points over their last ten games. Pomeroy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
