5A Region II District 15 recap September 10, 2013
Bowie scaled the state rankings by moving to 35 from 92 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 15. The Bulldogs climbed the ranks as a result of topping Round Rock Westwood 45-27.
Akins lost to McCallum 40-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Teddy Lowery ran for 101 yards and caught 1 passes for 48 yards in the loss.
Lake Travis's dynamic duo of Dominic De Lira and Varshaun Nixon proved tough for Canyon to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. De Lira threw for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns and Nixon had 74 yards receiving. Dominic Packer helped Lake Travis' passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 30 yards.
The Cavaliers' dynamic duo of De Lira and Nixon proved to be unstoppable against the Cougars, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Juan Padron provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Del Valle bested Pflugerville Connally. He completed 13 passes for 135 yards and also ran for 74 yards. Padron's favorite target this week was Altany Wilson, who caught 5 passes for 48 yards.
Nixon was the best wideout in the league this week as Lake Travis topped Canyon.
De Lira put up the best numbers in passing as Hank Carter's team topped Matthew Elliott's team.
Wilson was the best running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 122 yards as the Cardinals beat the Cougars.
Lake Travis' De Lira and Nixon have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region II District 15 in both passing and receiving yards. De Lira has thrown for 287 yards this season, while Nixon, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 11 catches for 119 yards. Akins' Lowery leads the league in rushing yards with 250.
Westlake and Temple played the closest game in the league this week, with Westlake eventually emerging with a 45-41 victory.
