The Mountain View Mavericks will take on the Owyhee Storm in a tournament on Saturday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Mountain View's last matchup with Middleton could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Friday. The Mavericks lost 10-2 to the Vikings. The Mavericks haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Cooper Schneidt was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run. Braylon Schellhammer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Owyhee faced Coeur d'Alene in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Storm had just enough and edged out the Vikings 2-1.
Heath Sasser-Gunson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gage Haws was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jack Hallenbeck, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Mountain View's loss dropped their record down to 22-11. As for Owyhee, their win bumped their record up to 27-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mountain View has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Owyhee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Mountain View's way against Owyhee in their previous matchup on Thursday, as Mountain View made off with a 9-1 victory. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Storm turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
